DESIGNER  JEWELLERY  IN  DUNDEE

As an independent retailer, Pretty Fly has complete control over the products we stock.  We represent the work of many talented designers from across the UK, selling an eclectic range of jewellery.   Many of our jewellers are homegrown, having studied at Duncan of Joradanstone Collage of Art and Design in Dundee.  Below we have detailed a handful of the artists we represent, along with brief biographies.   If you want bespoke jewellery, we can design and make something for you, or point you in the direction of the perfect designer.

 SCARLETT  ERSKINE

Scottish jeweller, Scarlett Erskine creates high quality, uniquely textured jewellery. Within her collections, Scarlett creates both wearable and statement pieces – each with their own carefully crafted unique textures and character.  Taking her inspirations from the skin, Scarlett highlights the beauty contained within detailed structures and textures of skin cells in her work. She aims to engage the wearer by heightening their sense of touch through creating jewellery that, when worn, feels as though it’s an extension to the skin. She does this through using various techniques with precious metals to create contrasting textures. Scarlett’s work is further enhanced through her intricate use of precious and semi-precious gemstones settings adding elegance and colour to her collection.

KAREN  SMITH

Karen Smith Jewellery & Metal Design was established in 2013 by Scottish jewellery designer Karen Smith.
A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Karen has over 17 years of experience as a jeweller. Over the years she has worked for several jewellery companies in Scotland, Canada and Holland. Now settled back in her Native Scotland Karen is creating her own designs.

I’m passionate about music. I love the hidden stories within songs and the effect they have on us. This is where I draw my inspiration from which I then translate into my quirky storybook jewellery. Each piece is handmade by me from my workshop in Dundee, Scotland, making each piece slightly different and unique in its own way I like to think my jewellery says something about the wearer without actually disclosing it. Almost like wearing a secret in full view without everyone being aware of it, unless you really want them to."

ISLAY  SPALDING

I am a designer and maker of contemporary jewellery and kilt pins based in Dundee, Scotland.  Things that inspire me are natural forms and landscapes, surrealist and abstract art, nonsense stories and symbolic art, th ey lead me to create fun, colourful and intriguing wearable objects. I aim to create timeless but unusual designs, unique pieces that will last a lifetime, not just a season, with quality materials and good craftsmanship. I enjoy working with my customers to create bespoke pieces of jewellery and think it's important jewellery should have a personal meaning and story behind it. I specialise in handmade bespoke kilt pins, designed to have a traditional feel with a distinctive contemporary edge and regularly undertake private commissions.

ABBY  FILER

I am a contemporary fashion jewellery designer and maker. Working in silver, gold, precious stones and printed aluminium to create fun, feminine and unique handmade jewellery.
My inspiration comes from a combination of my love of the bold and colourful 1960s design era combined with my childhood memories of growing up the picturesque surroundings of Summerseat, Lancashire.  I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006 and now run my business Abby Filer Jewellery from Franny & Filer jewellery shop, which I opened with friend and fellow jeweller Frances Stunt in 2009.

MOD  JOOL

Mod Jool is a system of statement jewellery, that features three distinct modular ranges, which can be worn individually, mixed and matched or combined magnetically. The wearer can adapt the appearance by simply changing colour, shape, size, material or style, all within the same jewellery collection.

TWIGGD

Hello! I'm Tara and I'm the girl behind Twiggd. I love colourful things, fiddly tasks, cats, true crime podcasts and coffee.  I have a degree in textile design and studied fashion design and fine woodworking before setting up Twiggd, playful, colourful, laser cut jewellery. Design inspiration comes from lots of places including- the love of colour, simple shapes and geometry, living by the sea, Scottish culture and funny words.  All pieces are designed and made by me in Edinburgh where I live with my fiance, little boy and two black cats who of course also have colourful laser cut accessories.

HOLLY  MCAFEE

I have been designing and making jewellery since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2010, and I'm still based in Dundee today with a studio at WASPS Meadowmill. My collections of work have developed through different styles, but always adhere to the same rule - delicately detailed designs with a contrast of textures. Inspiration is also from similar sources, always found in my natural surroundings here in Scotland.

MILLY  MUNDAY

Jewellery designer Milly Munday has developed her debut collections from the rich inspiration that Scottish beaches secrete. Milly encapsulates the encrusted textures, shapes and forms found at the beach: focussing on the detail of gritty seashell & barnacle surfaces.

Using precious materials, she has designed and crafted wearable, contemporary jewellery that she hopes will be treasured by the wearer.

PAISLEY  PINS

Paisley Pins is a range of paisley pattern inspired jewellery from designer/maker Laura Provan. Combining hand-making processes with casting, laser cutting/etching & using bright acrylics, anodised aluminium & sterling silver, Laura creates jewellery with a contemporary twist on the traditional paisley pattern that is at the heart of her hometown’s heritage. All of Laura's jewellery is made in her studio based in Paisley.

KAZ  ROBERTSON

Kaz designs and creates her jewellery from her studio in Coburg house, Edinburgh. Mainly working with resin, she produces pieces by combining a bold colour palette with pattern.  Working with resin she creates her own colours by mixing pigments. Depending on the collection being worked on she can create a bold, clashing palette, or a softer, sophisticated blend.  Layering translucent resin over opaque helps achieve a richer finish and a wider colour range.  By adding pattern to the layers and using inlaying techniques Kaz creates unique effects.  Some pieces are reversible for an added surprise. Others have magnets set within which allows bangles to stick together in sets, or ring tops to be swapped. Mismatching is another strong design element of Kaz’s jewellery.

CLAIRE  LOWE

Claire graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2005, after studying Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied crafts. After graduating Claire continued to develop and produce contemporary jewellery to be sold at exhibitions, craft events and through galleries and shops countrywide.

TRACY  WILSON

Design has always been one of my passions. I studied Interior design, following this with a Masters and worked in a design environment for 17 years.  I changed career direction, completed an HNC in Jewellery and I am currently living the dream!  I work mainly in silver but often incorporate colour into my designs by adding gemstones, hints of gold, enamel and oxidising.  My current collection ‘Identity’ was inspired by sound waves and how individual sound is to everyone and everything. During my design process I have explored pattern, form and texture to complete this collection.

CHRISTINA  HIRST

I am a designer jeweller based in Scotland. I make beautiful jewellery inspired by nature. I work predominately in silver and gold but use a range of materials to produce a diverse range of pieces from small delicate earrings to large sculptural neckpieces.
